When he was playing the role of the tyrant emperor, it didn't matter to him how disgusting his approach was — he was completely alone and he just needed to survive. But now that he has someone, he has something to lose. He is afraid that if she knows the truth — if she sees the ugliness in him — she won't like what she sees and she will abandon him. He doesn't want to be alone all over again.
It's always the hardest to allow those we care about to see us at our worst.
Definitely makes the drama more layered though~ 🥹
Seeing that SOS flower garden arrangement in today's episode made me so emotional. 😭 How long did he keep sending out those distress signals before he finally gave up?
With no one to trust and enemies on all sides, he only did what he needed to in order to survive. He must have been so incredibly lonely until Yu Wanyin showed up. She was the hope he clung onto. Which is why her question, "How are you?" hit so hard. To her, she was just testing him. But to him, regardless of language, it was the first time in a long time anyone had asked him that. It was probably the first time in a long time anyone truly cared. It's just so heartbreaking. 🥹
This drama is doing such an amazing job with the emotional depth. I'm really loving the story so far~
It wasn't his choice to have a son. He was SA when he was only 12-13 years old. That's why he's not close to the crown prince.
Why would the screenwriters do that? 🤔
While that sounds fair to the actors in theory, it makes me a bit nervous for the drama as a whole because it's exactly what happened to The Princess's Gambit (ironically, another MZY drama) and it wasn't executed well.
It's always a challenge when adaptations go off-script, so I really hope the screenwriters know what they're doing here.
