A quiet disturbing movie

Insane” is a Korean movie. The story revolves around a girl who was kidnapped and sent to an illegal mental hospital. The movie ends with a big secret. It’s quite engaging, although it has many disturbing elements.
The performances are outstanding, particularly by Kang Ye-won, who portrays the kidnapped woman. Her expressions of fear, confusion, and silent strength are deeply moving. The supporting cast, especially Lee Sang-yoon as the reporter, also deliver convincing performances.

One more Mr. Han. Short role but performed well.

Sad story

This was a very short movie. The story was ok, it shows that you have to cherisch the important people in your life.
The visuals were a bit blurry and a bit dark.
The music very beautiful.

The acting wasn't very good, they didn't manage to bring over the feelings.

Overall, since it is a very short film i would say just watch it.

Fun remake

So, lets get this out of the way right at the beginning, if you weren't aware, thus is a remake of the 2010 American move Tucker and Dale vs Evil staring Alan Tudyk.

Me and my wife had both watched the original movie going into this, but still had a lot of fun watching this version. They kept a lot of the movie true to the original, we had a lot of fun figuring out how they were gonna implement the deaths from the original.

If you have seen the original though, it's important to note that the ending in Handsome Guys is completely different from Tucker and Dale vs Evil.

The most daring step to take

This was a simple, two-minute story, but it was effective in making its point. Here are two guys: pushing the boundaries, out late, running from the authorities, drinking, doing things that feel risky with little reward just for the sake of the thrill. However, something as simple as kissing his friend was deemed unacceptable and too risky. What a punch in the gut, watching the face of the one left behind as he realizes a line has been drawn. Love is the biggest risk of all.

how easily you forgive a cheater?

this is a short bl movie, as it is short there wasnt any filler scene, it shows 2 guys in love who end up facing homophobia then the partner cheat ,cry then oops he is forgiven.. sorry but excuse me?
i know forgiving a cheater is obviously up to the person who got cheated on, some people forgive while others dont but why make it look so easy? like at least make him try to make up for him ,begging for some days or something... what happened is that he forgave him in the same moment when he confessed that he cheated on him. the name of the movie is "hurt" i guess he felt hurt for 4 mins during the cheating confession then all forgiven and forgotten...

just give it a try

i might be writing complete nonsense since i'm still with tears in my eyes rn, but, i can't lie to myself, this movie is wonderful. probably one of my favorites that i've seen this year.

lay's acting was flawless, and the child actress had me bawling since the very beginning. she was the highlight of this whole thing, and she made the movie shine. i can see a great future in her career.

tbh my opinion might be biased since i've been working with deaf and hearing impaired people this past months, but i believe that this movie portrayed in such a helpless yet (to some extent) realistic way how difficult life can be just be being different. it's just that we, hearing people, take a lot of things for granted. this puts you in a different perspective.

and, yep, you might get frustrated by the way the xiao ma acts at some point, the (ironic) lack of communication and many other things, but the whole point of this movie isn't for us to feel bad, or suddenly want to change the world overnight. i believe that the point was to make us know that despite everything we can always learn from our past and be better. at least that's what i got from it.

now, the music and the way they played with the background noises was on point. there wasn't a lot for obvious reasons, but whenever they played with it, it was great. on the other hand lay and mumu's actress were amazing, giving such depth and realism to their characters in a way that truly makes you want to root for them. and, well, even with some incongruences in the plot, it's a very enjoyable film.

but, one again, i'm biased right now. however, i think it's a very good watch. really worth it :-)

If you think bully focused Kdramas are rough, these Thai high schoolers were bullied even worse after their persecutor died in Attack 13. This genre is not exactly my jam so others may find it much more absorbing and terrifying.

Jin transfers to a new school where a queen bee rules the other girls with an iron fist or more aptly a volleyball spike to the head. Jin has her own dark secrets and doesn’t take anything off of Bussaba. The volleyball captain extorts money and water boards anyone she is displeased with. Jin refuses to be bullied and the two girls clash often until one morning Bussaba is found hanging from the basketball goal. Things begin going wrong at the funeral and escalate minute by minute placing team members and Bussaba’s boyfriend in grave danger. A shaman tells them they have three days to break the spell or everyone will die.

This felt like a low budget horror flick that featured numerous gruesome deaths. The ghost wasn’t super scary because you could tell it was a makeup job. As there were several teens involved, there was almost no character development for any of them which in turn didn’t trigger any emotional loss when people were killed. In the same way movie teens go into the spooky house or cemetery, these teens did similar stupid things. Not that it mattered, this ghost was practically omnipresent. There were scenes that were funnier than scary because they were so absurd.

What I learned:
1) When a malevolent ghost is out for blood, do not hire a bargain basement shaman. Ask for references and do a background check.
2) If offered legit talismans for protection against malevolent ghosts---take them
3) Girls need to be taught it is okay to say no and to obey their gut instinct.
4) Being able to count to 3 is important
5) It’s also okay to call in the authorities instead of cleaning up one’s own mess.
6) While not being too nosy, it might prove useful to know if any of your friends have any kinky proclivities

If you are looking for a spooky Halloween flick, Attack 13 might be one to try. It may have appeared low budget, but there were still enough deaths and creepy crawlies if you are wanting a few jump scares. And a few laughs.

21 October 2025

Triggers: Gruesome deaths-impalements of various body parts, including the head and eye. Creepy multi-legged insects and snakes. Decapitation. Lots of spurty CGI blood and the KY Jelly colored gooey kind. A bare bottom scene. Discussions of abortion, sexual abuse, and physical abuse. Numerous scenes displaying a “suicide”.

Honestly, with this movie, I'm not gonna lie—at first, I didn’t even know it was a Thai movie. I just saw a little clip or trailer and didn’t think much of it until one day it popped up on Netflix, so I decided to give it a try.

Overall, I’d say it’s okay. You’ve got these two twin sisters who are super close, and then here comes a man—like, bruh, of course. That’s the thing with Thai dramas, right? There’s always gonna be some kind of drama, but usually it’s the fun kind. With this one, though, since it’s a movie and not a drama series, I didn’t really get that same excitement.

The story feels very real-life, though. The twins live with their parents, then their parents get divorced, so they move in with their grandma—it’s that kind of everyday story that you can actually see happening. But I won’t lie, it started to get a little boring after a while. Like, me and my sister would never fight over a man. If she wants him, she can have him! There’s always another man on the block, you know what I mean?

The casting was perfect, especially the fact that one girl played both twins—props for that! But the storyline itself? It just didn’t hit that deep for me. If they added some mystery or thriller elements, it would’ve been way more interesting. But the bonding between sisters is breaking over a man? Yeah, nah, I’m good on that.

Growing up in Thailand, I used to watch this movie with my grandparents all the time. It brings back so many childhood memories. After moving to the USA, I had been searching for this movie for years and I finally found it again! It popped up on Netflix (but sadly not on the U.S. version), so I ended up looking up the Thai title and watching the full thing on (Dailymotion). I watched the entire series, from the parents story to the second and third parts — and let me tell you, I loved every bit of it!

It’s one of those comedies that just makes you laugh nonstop The first and third parts were especially hilarious! The main guy actor is just naturally funny — like he doesn’t even have to try, his whole vibe is pure comedy gold.

And okay, I have to mention this — when I saw the son, I kept thinking, “Why does he look exactly like his dad?!” At first, I thought it was just really good casting… but after doing a little deep-dive research, I found out it’s his actual son!

For anyone who hasn’t watched it yet — please do! It’s such a fun, heartwarming, and laugh out loud Thai comedy that will have you giggling your ass off the entire time!

Okay, I’ll admit I might be a little biased, because I actually really enjoyed this movie! I saw some comments saying it felt “average” to others, but honestly, if you’re not Asian — and especially if you’re not Thai — you probably won’t fully get the humor or the style of comedy in this film. And that’s totally understandable! Some jokes just hit differently when you grow up with Thai ISAN humor and culture.

From the start, I found it hilarious especially because a few of the actresses were English-speaking, which made the mix in a Thai movie even funnier to me. The detective character was the real star — he’s always been naturally funny, and his whole detective vibe just made every scene hilarious 🤣

As for the ending, I didn’t expect it at all 😭 I was so tuned in like, “Wait… what just happened?!” But honestly, I ended up satisfied with how it turned out. The little girl’s plan made perfect sense in the end, and I thought it was such a clever wrap-up!

Overall, it was super fun, culturally unique, and full of laughs. I’d rate this a solid 9/10 💫 Definitely worth watching if you appreciate Thai-style comedy and a good mystery twist! 🍿💖

Okay, so with this movie — I really liked it! When I first watched the trailer, I honestly thought it was just gonna be a funny sibling war type of movie — you know, like a brother and sister constantly fighting and teasing each other. But as I actually watched it, I realized it was so much more than that.

There’s comedy for sure, but there’s also some emotional and heartfelt moments too. You get to see the bond between the characters grow, and it mixes everything I love — humor, family, and a bit of sadness.

And let me just say — Yaya and Sunny? PERFECTION. Both of them being half Thai just made it feel even more natural and fun to watch. The casting overall was chef’s kiss — everyone fit their roles perfectly.

Honestly, this movie ate down! 🍿🔥

A World Where the Philippines Never Existed

«The Kingdom» (2024) is set in a world where the Republic of the Philippines was never conquered by Western imperialists. Instead, the archipelago stood united under a central monarchy—the "Kingdom of Kalayaan". ("Kalayaan" means freedom in Filipino.)

It reimagines a version of history many Filipinos have long dreamed of—a world where our islands successfully repelled foreign invaders, preserving the values that once defined us: equality, equity, compassion, and respect for diversity and neurodiversity. A reality without anti-LGBT prejudice, without slavery, and where divorce is part of societal balance. Traditions and systems that Western colonisers erased or rewrote to fit their own narratives.

Now, this is a review, not a spoiler so let's get right into it.

Fight Scenes

Let's be honest: the fight scenes need serious improvement. Watching them felt like watching a slow-motion training reel rather than a life-or-death clash. Movements lacked weight, and the rhythm was too sluggish to sell the intensity of real combat.

The overuse of zoom-in shots did not help either (a common trick to hide the lack of impact by diverting attention to movement instead of connection). This was especially noticeable in the final battle sequence (no spoilers, of course).

That said, there is one exception. The second-to-the-last fight was slow for a reason and it worked. It carried a ceremonial tone, almost like a ritual dance between two warriors. That is where the pacing felt purposeful, not awkward.

If only the same level of attention was given throughout. A bit more budget and choreography refinement could have turned those duels into something memorable.

Spoken Language

Now, this part deserves applause. The dialogues were clean, properly structured, and beautifully delivered. The actors used the right words in the right places, avoiding the exaggerated diction often heard in teleserye (Philippine TV series).

As someone familiar with many of the older terms used, it was refreshing to hear those nearly forgotten words come alive again. It added authenticity, something rarely achieved in modern Filipino productions.

Names and Written Language

Here is where things start to so-so a bit. For a film set in a world untouched by Western colonisation, the names and scripts used felt oddly… foreign.

Why is there a character named Felipe? Why Dayang Lualhati instead of the native Dayang Luwalhati? And why is Latin script still the dominant writing system?

Think of how Korea, Japan, and China maintained their native scripts as cultural anchors. Even Thailand—which was also colonised—still uses its native alphabet proudly. If «The Kingdom» truly envisioned an uncolonised Philippines, it would make sense for Baybayin, or perhaps a modernised 21st-century version of it, to be the national script.

That detail alone could have elevated immersion tenfold. It would have grounded the Kingdom of Kalayaan as a civilisation distinctly its own, not just a Southeast Asian monarchy that "looks free" but still borrows its image from foreign cultures.

Even the palace design leaned more Thai or Indian than Filipino. Beautiful, yes, but a little detached from what the film's premise promised.

The Use of "Mabuhay"

This one caught me off-guard. In our real-world Philippines, "Mabuhay" carries deep national sentiment. It is a rallying word born from post-colonial pride, meant to uplift and celebrate Filipino identity.

But in a world where colonisation never happened, its symbolic weight would not have evolved in the same way. Hearing it used similarly in the film felt… out-of-place. It is a small detail, but a telling one. It hints at how even this alternate "Philippines" could not quite escape the shadow of our colonised history.

Verdict

Despite its flaws, «The Kingdom» remains an ambitious and heartfelt piece of alternate history. Its worldbuilding carries the kind of what-if many Filipinos quietly imagine: what if our history went differently? What if we never had to unlearn who we were?

For all its imperfections, the film delivers that spark of imagination.

8⭐ out of 10

It is not perfect, but it is meaningful, and that is what makes it worth watching.

Mantis (2025) Review

7.3 ~ Another non-ordinary performance by Yim Si Wan, blending action and comedy with his signature charm. The action scenes are sharp and well-executed, showcasing solid choreography and pacing. While the plot leans toward predictability, it still manages to entertain through witty moments and a lighthearted tone. The romantic subplot adds a soft, endearing touch that balances out the intense sequences. Overall, Mantis might not redefine the genre, but it’s an enjoyable watch worth recommending, especially if you’re a fan of stylish action with a dash of humor and heart.

The moon is still the moon

I saw some edits and started watching this movie just for the actor hong kyung as I liked his previous movie our summer. but that and this movie are so different so I didn't really think I'll like this film that much and went in to watch it without much expectations. I really didn't expect this film to be so good and I didn't think I'll like it so much that I re-watched it like three times already. This deserves to be known by a lot of people. Every actors and actresses did their job well the casting is really 10/10. The dark comedy and the political satire was so perfect I really don't have any words other than saying that this film was so good.
The music really helped the execution of the humorous scenes. The tension between the characters and everything was good I think if you like dark humour or satire you'll like it so much.
After mantis, I really didn't have much expectation for this movie from the same director but unlike mantis there is plot here so yeah. Definitely worth it.

A COMFORT QUEER FILM THAT FEELS REAL

Love in the Big City captures the messy, beautiful, and painfully real side of growing up, loving freely, and holding on to the people who truly understands you. The two bestfriends, Jae Hee and Hong Su, whose bond feels so genuine that it mad me a little jealous of their friendship.

Jae Hee is vibrant and strong willed yet deeply vulnerable underneath. Hong Su, on the other hand, is calm, gentle, and quietly emotional. The contrast between them makes their connection feel even more special.

Their chemistry feels effortlessly real, it's not over the top kind, but the subtle, comforting kind that say "you get me". Watching them share moments, fight, laugh, and support each other made the story heartfelt and personal.

I love how realistic the story feels, showing love, friendship, and queerness in a way that doesn't feel forced and idealized. It's honest and comforting.

And I have to mention the soundtrack, it's perfect. Overall, this is a comfort queer film that's easy to love.
