Not Special, But Somehow Stole My Heart
I started this series after Me and Thee purely because I wanted to see PondPhuwin’s chemistry here. Funny enough, this is actually the only PondPhuwin series I skipped before lol. I randomly clicked it on some random Saturday and honestly, it’s not some mind-blowing, life-changing show, but it’s the perfect mealtime watch. Comfort, easy, never boring. This series is very much about love and friendship. Romance is there, yes, but the friendships are just as important, and that’s what makes it charming. I think this might be GMMTV’s first BL with four pairs, which felt pretty fresh. That said, I do think the pacing could’ve been better. If they trimmed it down to around 12 or 13 episodes, the story would feel tighter. Because there are so many episodes, we get a lot of kissing and love scenes… like, I’m not complaining but some of them could’ve been cut down a bit lol 😂
Things I realized while watching:
1) I could NEVER survive a situationship like PhumPeem. Nope. After the first kiss, I’d be like “okay so what are we” immediately. I don’t have the patience for that emotional limbo.
2) At first, I kinda cringed at Toey (Satang) because the last series I watched him in was My School President, where he was all cool and nonchalant. Toey here is the total opposite, super childish. But after a while, I got used to it, and honestly, this just proves how good Satang is. He made me completely forget his previous role. As for Winny, his character feels pretty similar to what he’s done before. I’m not super into QToey as a pair, but THEIR OST??? Insane. Every time the bgm comes on, I’m instantly smiling and blushing. It’s way too sweet.
3) MY PRECIOUS TANFANG 🩷 I came for PondPhuwin but stayed for AouBoom. I genuinely didn’t expect their chemistry to hit this hard. Their characters are adorable, their scenes feel so natural, and I always find myself waiting for them. They make me smile like an idiot. I couldn’t move on from them, so of course I went and searched for their parts in the novel (yes, I’m obsessed). TanFang feels very close to AouBoom’s real-life dynamic. If you’ve read the novel, you know how big and romantic Tan’s love for Fang is, and Aou portrayed that perfectly on screen.
4) ChainPun is peak slow-burn, friends-to-lovers. No big drama, just quiet feelings growing between people who already care about each other. Simple, soft, and honestly my kind of trope. I pray for this kind of love someday, right after TanFang lol.
Overall, the series is really nothing special, but somehow it still charms my heart and makes me soft for their story and friendship.

From Chaos to Complexity: An Unexpectedly Deep Journey
* [My rewritten review after completing the drama]After watching the trailer of How Dare You a few months ago, I was waiting so impatiently for this drama to air. 😭✨ From the very first glimpse, I felt like it was going to be hilarious. Even though comedy is not really my cup of tea, I was extremely curious to see how Chang Lei and Wang Churan would handle funny characters — and most importantly, how their chemistry would burn on screen. 🔥
I just completed the drama and honestly, it has not disappointed me. 🙌 I haven’t read the original novel or watched the donghua adaptation, so I’m experiencing the story purely through the drama itself. That actually helps me enjoy it without comparisons.
😂 From Comedy Chaos to Political Depth
At the beginning, I expected pure comedy — chaotic humor, exaggerated situations, lighthearted fun. The first episodes even had moments that made me laugh awkwardly (yes, that “how are you” line caught me off guard 😭).
But after episode three, the tone gradually shifted. What started as a seemingly light transmigration drama slowly unfolded into something much deeper.
The second half? It became a real palace political drama.
Transmigration itself isn’t new in historical dramas, but this drama brought novelty in execution. The plot development, the layered foreshadowing, and the structural payoff were surprisingly solid. Some moments felt slightly strange in pacing, but when the foreshadowing was revealed, everything clicked. That “ohhh” realization feeling was rare and satisfying.
For example, small details like Xie Yong’er and the jasmine motif didn’t feel random. They were carefully planted hints. Even minor characters — from Xu Yao to the scholars — had clear ambitions and narrative completeness. Their motivations were expressed with clarity. I haven’t seen such passionate, era-consistent dialogue in a long time.
One of the most satisfying parts for me is the dynamic between the male lead and female lead. 🥹 They work together. They plan together. They survive together. There’s a mutual understanding between them that feels very refreshing. They are not plotting against each other — they are plotting side by side to protect themselves and improve the kingdom. That partnership feels mature and balanced.
💖✨The Couple - Partnership and Romance
The ML–FL dynamic was honestly one of the most satisfying parts for me. 🥹 They don’t scheme against each other — they strategize side by side. They plan together, survive together, and genuinely try to improve the kingdom together. That partnership feels mature, balanced, and so refreshing for a C-drama couple.
The FL is incredibly sharp and strategic. 🧠✨ She observes, calculates, and acts — she doesn’t wait to be saved. I love that energy.
And the ML… he lived through years of loneliness and manipulation after transmigrating so young. When he met her, everything changed. 😭 Even while hiding his true situation, he loved her wholeheartedly. He barely worried about himself — her safety always came first. That kind of quiet, selfless love really hits. 💔
At first, their chemistry felt more like allies than lovers. But as the story progressed? It started to burn. 🔥 Watching them grow from survival partners into something deeper — through subtle glances and unspoken protection — was lovely.
🌸 Wang Churan — Unexpectedly Perfect
I had watched her some dramas before. But her acting there wasn't that special to me.
But here? She is stunning. Absolutely stunning.
Her beauty is almost unreal — especially in the male disguise scene in the tavern. How can she look that good even dressed as a man? And when she pouts slightly? Too cute.
But beyond visuals, she brought brightness and warmth to the role. She felt lively, intelligent, and emotionally sincere. I genuinely couldn’t imagine anyone else playing this character.
👁️ Chang Lei — The Eyes That Act
Now my favorite part.
After watching My Journey to You in 2024, I waited more than a year to see Chang Lei portray a character whose eyes carry that same raw emotional depth again.
And finally, I saw it.
His eyes in this drama do the acting on their own.
Sometimes they are filled with laughter.
Sometimes they are terrifying in tyrant mode.
Sometimes they are full of loneliness and pain.
Sometimes they soften with love.
I don’t even need to categorize the emotion — it just reaches me. It hits directly.
Dan lived in loneliness for years. Manipulated. Poisoned. Used like a puppet. And yet when he met her, his world shifted. Even when he couldn’t let her go, even when he hid truths from her, his concern was always about her safety. That silent, restrained affection hurt in the best way.
At first, I didn’t see intense romantic chemistry. It felt more like allies. But as the story progressed, their chemistry slowly ignited. That slow burn made it even more satisfying.
His performance here proves again that he can be comedic, dark, vulnerable, and authoritative — all through subtle control. I truly missed seeing that depth.
💔 The Ending… and My Regret
Now, about the ending. honestly… I wanted more. Where was CEO Zhang? I wanted modern company scenes, not just reunion-on-the-subway vibes. The emotional build-up was so high, and suddenly it cut. I felt like some aftermath scenes were missing.
It’s not about comparing or dragging anything down. I just genuinely feel that if the production had slightly more episodes — maybe four or six more — the pacing in the final stretch wouldn’t have felt rushed.
Still, despite some regrets, it remains a very faithful adaptation with impressive acting and detailed presentation. Knowing the novel beforehand actually made me more critical, but it also allowed me to appreciate how certain textual descriptions were transformed into visual storytelling.

Comfortable Watch
I really liked some parts of the show, and there are other parts that were not so good. I split the difference in my rating, but I can see where some will absolutely adore the show and others will be annoyed. On the good side were the characters and their portrayals. The characters have some nuance to them, and the conflicts they face seem real and how they got to their current predicament is relatable. The two leads do not have obvious flaws, which makes it easier to follow along with their story. With one notable exception, the secondary characters have redeeming features as well.
The ML, played by Chen Xing Xu, and the FL, played by Lu Yu Xiao, are likable in part of the acting. It helps that they look good, but again they capture the strengths and vulnerabilities of their characters. The relationships on the show feel like real people going through tough times, particularly the relationships with the FL.
One hook to the show is the virtual reality world where the two leads first meet. It has a gorgeous Republic era aesthetic but the characters do not die in the end, unlike in the Republic era cdramas. Both the leads look fantastic in these VR scenes, which I am guessing helps to explain the ratings here.
Finally, in spite of my issues with the plot, I like the ending. It feels very natural and realistic, avoiding a couple of cheat codes that writers like to use in romance shows. The FL makes her intentions clear, but they still have some navigation ahead.
On the down side, the plot is pedestrian. It never really challenges the viewer and it never moves much beyond standard romantic drama fare. The story goes into vertical drama mode and the reasons don’t make a whole of sense There is some technical stuff that doesn’t seem internally consistent, most notably that it is not clear how the VR world works. Finally, one character just gets worse and worse, until we learn he is basically Satan. That character’s integrity is sacrificed in the end to give the rest of the characters something to fight against, just really unsatisfying if you think to much about it.
In the end, a comfort show with likable and attractive leads, but some details will annoy the heck out of some viewers.
One final note. I have only seen Lu Yu Xiao in one other drama, Romance in the Alley. In that drama she plays a young Shanghai architect in a messy romantic relationship with a colleague while facing family pressures that complicate her love life. It is a supporting role and I kinda feel like Love Between Lines was a continuation of her story. At least in this story her love interest doesn’t jump off the roof when she makes a move.

Finding Helium Thru Endless Pandemonium
I genuinely had no clue what I’d just signed up for, but I was locked in from start to finish. The CHEMISTRY was eating — and yes, full pun intended.Plot-wise? Wild in the best way. One minute you’re grounded, the next you’re hopping across realms (literally) and suddenly dabbling in a whole new genre like it’s nothing. It shouldn’t work… but it does (
i guess?). Somehow the story keeps stitching everything together so the madness feels less mad.
It’s the kind of drama that doesn’t try to stay in one lane — and that’s exactly why it works.

unhinged
this is very very very unhinged and has little logic. To be honest, i saw the train scene on X and I felt like i had to know how that came to be jajajaYou need to turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride in order to enjoy it.
I have to say it gives very grape vibes, my man is eating her up like she's the last drop of water in a desert, like he needs her to survive (he kind of does?) and he doesnt care that much if she's into it or not, at least in the beginning.
When they start to get cute it gets very very good imo, but then that's when everything goes to shit again, and this loses the quality it had. Around ep 26 it begins to be kinda too bad, idk if it's because i binge watched the first 20eps and the last 20s time gave me perspective or something but i feel like the story made even less sense and kind of lost me.
Like I feel this would be a 8 for me for the first 26 ep, but how the story ends and how this is more like a guilty pleasure not really a drama I'll remember and want to revisit years to come, so i think its more fair to put this around a 6.

The best bl story ever
With all the new bl stories that from the first episodes focus on naked scenes..... this one comes like a fresh breeze of love and romance in an amazing story. The development of the scenes are amazing, well connected with each other, and the story develops gradually and beautifully 😍
It's a series with emotion, love, drama, happiness and sadness.
It had been a long time since I felt my heart beating and the tears falling.
I love this BL and it's an amazing series to watch.

Watch this if growing up has left you questioning whats true -and what really matters in life.^.^
From the very first episode , you will have questions about what's happening and why.But trust me , as the story unfolds, the answers begin to appear. Some behaviours may feel unsettling , even confusing at times , yet by the end , its like watching the sunset after waiting for it in harsh summer , u can't stand on the beach without feeling its beauty, its warmth and truth.I hope u have time to experience this journey, because its too relatable to miss and it tells about the harsh reality of lives who wish to dream , wish to build something beyond life and also want better life for their children and children wanting best for parents.
This drama will hit your conscience and maybe the way u think about the people around u and how u value them.
little disclaimer : this isn't a romance at its core , the plot is so real that it blends in your life .
and trust me u will understand everything at end .
though the end felt rushed but the story served its purpose to the fullest.
the cast , director, all the crew did their work at best working on details and aesthetics which elevated the perception of drama for me+.+
have great time watching it.

Plot twist after plot twist- with a strong bromance
Don't be fooled by the poster- I almost skip this thinking it's a triangle love story, it's not even close. It's pretty bromance-y or strong brotherhood, up to your own interpretation :)This show is SOOOO goood, much better than some of the more popular dramas. Engaging & entertaining. It's funny yet serious at same time. The endless plot twist got my heart racing again and again. The bromance is a total bonus. I'm glad I gave this a try.

Wild, Addictive, and Surprisingly Emotional
Sci Fi, Passion, and an Unexpectedly Deep LoveAffinity belongs to that rare, chaotic, wildly creative corner of C drama romance that people jokingly call the “crazy but addictive” genre, and honestly, it sits right at the top of it. It is bold, emotional, visually stylish, and completely unafraid to abandon realism in favor of imagination. From the very first episodes, the drama announces that logic is not its priority. Feeling, atmosphere, tension, romance, and surprise are. And somehow, instead of falling apart, everything comes together in a way that keeps pulling you deeper.
What surprised me most is how complex the story actually becomes. On the surface, Affinity looks like pure madness with sci fi elements, action, romance, and twists thrown together. But as it unfolds, the world building starts to make sense emotionally. It is set on an alien, Earth like planet, and because of that, the drama fully embraces creative freedom. The writers do not limit themselves, and instead build a strange but fascinating universe where danger, desire, power, and love constantly collide. The plot keeps surprising you, sometimes in ridiculous ways, sometimes in emotional ones, but it never feels boring.
The production is stylish and immersive. The OST and background music elevate every scene, the visuals are attractive, and the action sequences are well placed so that every episode feels dynamic. There is always something happening. Whether it is fighting, escaping, emotional confrontation, or quiet tension between the leads, Affinity keeps momentum. Even the special effects, while not perfect, work well enough to sell the atmosphere of this strange world.
What truly carries the drama, though, is the relationship between the leads. Despite what some people might expect, their romance is not built purely on physical attraction. It grows slowly and deliberately into something romantic, emotional, and deeply meaningful. The confession scene is one of the strongest moments in the drama. When the female lead finally realizes that the male lead truly loves her, it hits hard and feels earned.
The male lead starts off as cold, brutal, emotionally closed off, and almost frightening. He is the type of character who believes feelings are weaknesses. Through the female lead, he learns what emotions are, what love costs, and what it means to care about something more than power or survival. His growth is one of the most satisfying parts of the drama. By the end, he is no longer just protecting her. He respects her, supports her goals, and stands beside her as a partner, exactly what she said she wanted earlier in the story.
The breakup arc in the middle is another highlight. Technically there is a separation, but it never feels cheap or pointless. It is forced by circumstances, not by lost feelings. Their conflict evolves naturally from anger, to resentment, to painful acceptance. Their last night together is heartbreaking, intimate, and unforgettable. It is one of those scenes that stays with you because it feels emotionally honest instead of melodramatic.
The reunion years later is just as powerful. The actors portray longing, guilt, regret, and enduring love beautifully. You can feel how much time and pain sits between them. The way she lets him back in feels natural, not rushed. There is no instant forgiveness, only quiet understanding and emotional truth. It makes their happy ending feel deserved instead of forced.
I also wish Affinity had been a full length drama. The chemistry between the leads is magnetic, sweet, and intense, and I would have loved even more time with their relationship, growth, and life together. Their love story feels big enough to deserve more space.
Something people do not talk about enough is the second lead couple and the female lead’s brother. His character is morally grey, complicated, and surprisingly touching. His relationship with the second female lead is layered and emotional, and even his death is not brushed aside. The drama allows the weight of it to exist, which makes the story feel richer and more mature. The supporting characters are not just decorations. They add emotional depth and parallel struggles that make the main story stronger.
Affinity is not a drama you watch for realism. It is a drama you watch for creativity, emotion, atmosphere, romance, and bold storytelling. It is strange, messy, intense, sexy, painful, and beautiful all at once. It takes risks, and most of them pay off.
I started this drama because of the hype and curiosity, and I did not expect to fall so hard for it. By the end, Affinity stayed with me emotionally. It stands out in a way most dramas do not. It is chaotic, imaginative, heartfelt, and unforgettable. If you go in with an open mind, it becomes a surprisingly rewarding ride.

Lazy ending
This is usually my favorite kind of plot: a female lead transported into a novel or the past, so I was genuinely excited, especially since the male lead is quite talented. Unfortunately, while the story had potential, it was painfully slow. I kept watching, hoping it would pick up, but it never did. Nothing about the drama felt exciting, which is disappointing because this type of plot has huge potential to be genuinely funny...and it wasn’t.The ending didn’t help either. I could predict it from miles away, since this isn’t the first Chinese drama to use the “writing the story” loophole to get around the transmigration ban ( wink a dream within a dream which did this way better ). The conclusion felt extremely lazy : “how he comes into her world is a story for another time” just sounds like the writers didn’t know how to end their own script.

How Zhao Zhendong not laugh while saying those cheesy pick up line?
I watched this last year, and it still best Ximen Lichen story despite how cheesy ML seduce FL. Both actors brought their characters to life; Han Jiahui and Zhao Zhendong are simply a match made in heaven for Jiang Wanzhi and Ximen Lichen. The plot is about ML and FL had a secret relationship for three months before FL was forced to break up with the ML by ML family. Three years later, they meet again, and FL has become the fiancée of the ML's nephew. FL and the ML's nephew are in a marriage of convenience, and the male lead's nephew is having an affair with another woman.
If you're watching this as a sweet romance drama, the dialogue is a bit cheesy. Zhao Zhendong's lines is make me giddy (in good and bad way). I quite like Han Jiahui acting since few version of Jiang Wanzhi seems to meek and always seeking for help.
Personally not a fans of this adaptation but for the best adaptation, this one seems superior.

Make it Omegaverse but more awkward
I genuinely had to stop using my brain and watch it like it was a comedy drama. I started watching it 3 times and stop before deciding to continue and finish the series after watching TikTok of the hot scenes. They do kiss, quite nicely and almost entire series like if the episode is 18 minutes and it takes almost 10 minutes of kissing. I don't really complain cause ML has this seductive looking eyes and he knows how to use them. I liked FL after their 2 year apart. She had more character i believe. I cracked the second i saw the dragon and the octopus. Never in my 24 years old life i would have imagine omegaverse type of shit happening in this type of sci-fi scenario. The ending was all of the place as well, but hey if they are happy so we are.I can't forget the octopus scenes, whoever thought about it in the first place is a genius.

Calculated
The story was ok, but it was pretty predictable. I saw revieuws saying sinister, but i think those people don't know what sinister means. The actions in this drama were calculated, by both mains. The visuals were very good, the music was ok, but anoying at some moments.
The acting was not bad, but it was very emotionless most of the times and there was hardly any chemistry. And it's so dissapointing when there is a one sided kiss...one person puts in all the effort and the other just holds his lips together and doesn't move his mouth.
No a very bad drama, but if you don't watch it, you won't miss a lot.
